Dr. Ben Poynter, DVM

Veterinarian

We would like to welcome Dr. Benjamin Poynter to Thicketwood Veterinary Hospital and Uxbridge Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Ben (as he prefers to be called) will be a great addition to our team!

In Ben’s own words…“I grew up having many pets and loving all kinds of animals, so becoming a veterinarian was just a natural step for me. As a teenager, I volunteered and worked in a vet clinic and several farms to gain experience.
I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph and then moved to Dublin, Ireland to pursue my life-long dream at UCD School of Veterinary Medicine. During my studies in Ireland, I had the opportunity to do one of my required placements closer to home and I worked alongside staff at Uxbridge Veterinary Hospital. In 2017, I graduated from the University College Dublin with an Honours Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine.

After moving back home to Canada, I began working at a small veterinary clinic in Eastern Ontario, along with working casually at Uxbridge Veterinary Hospital. Originally from the Durham Region, I knew I wanted to move back there one day. When the timing was right, I accepted a position at the Uxbridge Veterinary Hospital and Thicketwood Veterinary Hospital. I am so fortunate to have come full circle, and to have to opportunity to work with the professionals at UVH/TVH again. I look forward to meeting current and future clients, and providing quality care for your pets.”

Dr. Cecilia Crestani DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Cecília Crestani was awarded the degree of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Londrina, Brazil, in 2011. During the years, her work experience, academically and professionally, created the opportunity to mentor her peers and being a mentee from admirable experts, which supported and increased her passion for animals and her field of study. For her, this trajectory confirms that the excellence in care for veterinarian patients relies truly on the team-based approach, transferring knowledge among the team members, promoting the quality of services that all patients deserve. Dr. Cecília began to practice at the Uxbridge Veterinary Hospital in 2021 and she is proud of being part of a team that shares this same concept.

Dr. Crestani lives in Pickering with her husband and son. She has a mixed lab "Spaghetti" and two cats, "Meatball" and "Mia". Dr. Cecília loves to spend time with family, friends and travelling.
